
1. Network: You need to choose the correct network that serves your purpose joining one. For example, musicians can promote their songs and videos on MySpace while professionals prefer Facebook and LinkedIn.
2. Effectiveness: Do not try to join all the possible networks, as you will not have the time to maintain all of them. Likewise, do not join all the groups that you come across within the networks, either. Choose only a few groups that suit your interests.
3. Consistency: It is necessary to be consistent through the different networks by adding the same information and profile picture when using similar IDs.
4. Profile: Your profile should be able to reflect the kind of person you are. Hence, go ahead and fill in as many details as possible to complete the profile. Your friends would want to know how you look, so upload a professional picture.
5. Interests: Add more friends who share the same interests as they will be more interested in sharing information and likes.
6. Activeness: Try to be regular to all your accounts. Comment on status messages, pictures,
videos and so on to be on feeds of your friends' profiles.
7. Spamming: Overdoing anything could be a disturbance. Send only relevant posts to prevent yourself from being a spammer.
8. Quality: Make sure you go through all your content to check and see if it is of good quality, before posting it on your profile and in your networking interactions.
9. Contacts: Keep in touch regularly with all your contacts, so that you can become more familiar with each other's likes, dislikes and current news.
10. Stress: Social networking is supposed to be fun, so do not stress yourself by going through your profiles and networking constantly. If you get stressed out, take a time out from the activities.
