The spyware is eavesdropping on you without your permission and using your own equipment to do it.

Some spyware programs are designed to get even more up close and personal. They search for passwords, email addresses, personal information and any security weaknesses your computer might have. So your bandwidth is being used, your computer is being overloaded with programs that aren’t even yours, and you are at real risk of identity theft. Spyware is not just an annoyance to be tolerated.
