The titles and descriptions you select for your webpages can create interest, excitement and huge revenues. That is, if you choose wisely. Here are a few key guidelines for creating killer titles and descriptions.

First and foremost, use clear, factual language that accurately describes what is offered on your website. Be sure that your primary keyword or keyword phrase is included in both your title and your description. Your keyword or keyword phrase must directly relate to your website content. Also, mention the business, product or service your website is promoting or selling.
 
Always carefully proof the spelling, grammar and punctuation in your title, description and content. Few things turn a visitor off faster than listings filled with typographical errors. Use correct capitalization - title case for titles and sentence case for descriptions.

Avoid repetition, excessive capitalization (such as words in all caps), and superlatives that are subjective in nature. An example of this might be “Top Rated” or “#1”. Also, do not include symbols (GR8 DEALS!), gimmicky language or competitive claims that cannot be backed up with documented proof.

Now let’s discuss the permissible length of titles and descriptions. Your webpage titles are limited to 30 characters. Website descriptions can only have 100 characters, and the length of your URL is limited to 255 characters. Remember that these character limits include spaces and punctuation. One more guideline to consider is that excessive uppercase letters should be avoided. If you find that your destination URL link is too long, use a shortened version such as your homepage URL.
 
If you follow these simple webpage title and description guidelines, you will greatly improve the probability of increased visibility, increased website traffic and ultimately, increased profits.
