If you are interested in making money off of your blog, affiliate programs are the way to go. The concept of using affiliate ads on your blog to earn extra income is surprisingly simple.

All you have to do is up your blog, add banners and text ads for affiliate programs that are related to your topic, write your blog entries and build a readership. It really is that simple and that profitable!

You can start the process one of two ways:

1) You can choose an affiliate product or service to write around 
2) You can choose a niche topic, and then find related affiliate products or services.

Typically, finding related affiliate products and services after choosing your niche is the easiest way to get started.

Determining what your niche will be is the hard part. There are many ways to choose the overall topic when you are blogging for cash, as affiliate programs are available for almost any topic you can imagine.

The smartest thing to do is to do some research and find out which keywords are most often searched for. If you cannot find a topic that interests you that way, try making a list of topics that do interest you, and use the tools at Yahoo Search Marketing to determine how popular those topics are. Remember: The goal is to find a topic that is popular.

Once you’ve determined which topic you will blog about, it is time to search for affiliate programs that offer products and services related to that topic.

Again, this is easy. Sign up as an affiliate at Click Bank, at http://www.clickbank.com  and also check out Affiliate Programs.com at http://www.affiliateprograms.com  .

If you don’t find products or services through these two resources, try doing a search for products or services that are related to your topic.

Once you ad affiliate programs to your blog, you earn a percentage for each sale made through your blog. Because of this, you should try to find programs that pay at least a 50% commission. Otherwise, the commission may not make the time you spend blogging worthwhile.

Use the affiliate programs in two ways. First, use available banners and text ads along the borders of your blog entries. This includes the top and bottom of the page, as well as the side borders where the navigation links are located as well.

Try to find banners that are just the right size for these areas. Most affiliate programs provide lots of creatives; however, in many cases, you can make your own creatives and submit them to the company for approval. Make sure that you check with the company before using any creatives that you produce yourself!

The second method for using affiliate programs to earn revenue is to promote the programs within the blog entries. Tell your readers why they should use a particular project.

In fact, your entire blog could be about various ways to use products. It could also become a how-to directory for a wide range of products or services. Recommendations will be very powerful to your devoted readers. Of course, it takes time to build a following of devoted readers!

Be careful not to make your blog one big advertisement. That won’t work, and any readers you do have won’t be hanging around for long.
